Newcastle United included out of window signing Fraser Harper on their Premier League squad list ahead of the second half of the season.

The attacking midfielder will get the chance to impress in Newcastle's reserve team set-up but has penned a professional contract with the Magpies after a successful trial. Newcastle signed Harper - who had been at Wolves since he was 13 following a move from Bristol City - and the right-footed player will be keen to get into Eddie Howe's eyeline in training.

Harper impressed in a black and white shirt in seven Under-18 games, netting twice and making one assist. He had previously made 49 appearances for Wolves' youth side, scoring nine goals while also having trials at Arsenal and Crystal Palace.

With Newcastle also signing Kyle Fitzgerald and Baran Yildiz, from Galway and Genclerbirligi, respectively, Harper will bring another option to the club's second string. And Howe has been an interested spectator at Whitley Park in recent weeks and has vowed to give any player that hits "the right level" an opportunity.

Howe was eager to help youngsters make a name for themselves and the club were on the look out for new signings. Howe told Chronicle Live: "Making stars is something that the club has had a vision to do since I arrived. The guys in the other building [the academy] can really help develop and flourish [players] and nurture them into the first team."

With injuries cutting into Howe's squad, the head coach turned to Academy striker Neave with his eight goals and three assists in 12 matches enough to catch the eye. Howe admitted after the game that the 17-year-old has been training with the first-team for the last two months.

When asked if Neave's presence was the positive of the new injury crisis going on behind the scenes, Howe told Chronicle Live: "Yes of course, we will always look to do that (give youngsters a chance). But they have to be at the level.

"Otherwise that is counter productive. We are always looking for the next talent and the person that can make a difference. We had Lewis Miley on the pitch. You can't underestimate how young he is, but I thought he gave a very good performance, of course there is opportunities for other players too."

Harper is represented by the same agency as Kieran Trippier who has helped him settle in at the club so far.
