Who is in the NFC championship game this year?

This year's NFC championship game is an all-NFC East matchup between two teams that have storied histories in the NFL.

The 183rd overall meeting between the Washington Commanders and Philadelphia Eagles will come in this year's NFC championship game. Despite their rivalry's lengthy existence, which dates back to their first two clashes in the 1934 regular season, Washington and Philadelphia have only met once before in the playoffs: an NFC wild-card game in 1991.

Entering Sunday afternoon's game, the Commanders hold the edge over the Eagles in overall head-to-head record as well as postseason record. Washington is 90-86-6 all-time versus Philadelphia, and it won that sole previous playoff matchup in 1991.

Who's playing in the NFC championship game?

The Eagles will host the Commanders in this year's NFC championship game. Since the two teams are divisional rivals, this will be their third meeting since the start of the regular season. Each team won the game it hosted this year to split the season series 1-1.

While Philadelphia is playing in its second NFC title game in three years, Washington hasn't made it this far since 1992. The Eagles won in their last NFC championship game appearance before losing to the Chiefs in Super Bowl 57. The Commanders also won the last time they had a shot at an NFC title and went on to beat the Bills in Super Bowl 26.

The NFC Championship game kicks off at 3 p.m. ET on Sunday, Jan. 26 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. Since the Eagles and Commanders play their conference's title game first, the winner of the game will not know its Super Bowl opponent until after the Bills and Chiefs determine an AFC champion later that evening.

Super Bowl 59 will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 9 at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. Each team that advances to the Big Game gets a one-week bye before Super Bowl Sunday.
