Xavier Simons is excited to be part of a promotion push after swapping Hull City for Wycombe Wanderers. The midfielder joined the Chairboys on loan from the Tigers on deadline day.

Simons, who kicked off his career at Chelsea, has made 22 appearances for City this term. Reflecting on his temporary switch, Simons said: "I'm delighted to get it done. We had been speaking for a little while. Obviously, things started to push more closer to the deadline and I'm delighted to be here. I can't wait to get started.

"I've played a fair bit this season and I want to kick on and push this club to where it wants to be. I will do all I can and bring my qualities and push for promotion."

The 21-year-old headed down to Buckinghamshire on Monday to put the finishing touches to the deal. "I woke up in Hull (on deadline day) but the deal was sorted last night (Sunday) so it has not been too much of a rush," he said. "For the fans, it will be a surprise. It was kept quiet so hopefully it is a nice surprise for them and they can see what I can do on the pitch."

Simons, who spent time on loan at Fleetwood Town last term, will have to wait until next week to make his Chairboys bow. He is ineligible for Wanderers FA Cup fourth round trip to Preston North End this weekend, having already played in the competition for City.

On what Wanderers can expect from him, Simons said: "The fans can expect determination and someone who plays for the badge. I'm a box-to-box midfielder who likes to put a tackle in and do the dirty work. I like to get forward and use my pace and power."

The Chairboys are on course to secure promotion to the Championship. They currently occupy the second automatic promotion place in League One.

"It's so exciting," said Simons. "It will be my first time pushing for promotion. That's all anyone wants at the club. I've not been here long and everyone is talking about promotion and that's the goal and that's what I want to be part of."
