Nick Klein steps into short-notice debut at UFC Fight Night 252 vs. Mansur Abdul-Malik
Nick Klein has his first UFC assignment and it comes on short notice.
However, Klein (6-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) is no stranger to answering the call when needed. In September, he earned his UFC contract on days' notice. Now, he'll have a little under a month to prepare for Mansur Abdul-Malik (7-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) as he has replaced Antonio Trocoli at UFC Fight Night 252 on Feb. 22 at Climate Pledge Arena.
Two people with knowledge of the matchup recently informed MMA Junkie of the new booking but asked to remain anonymous as the promotion has yet to make an official announcement.
It is unclear at this time why Trocoli (12-5 MMA, 0-2 UFC) withdrew.
Klein has finished five of his six professional wins including three with a rear-naked choke. His DWCS win in October only took 37 seconds, as he tapped surging Brazilian champion Heraldo Souza.
Abdul-Malik made his UFC debut in November and made quick work of Dusko Todorovic, who he finished by first-round TKO to earn Performance of the Night honors.
With the change, the UFC Fight Night 252 lineup includes:
Henry Cejudo vs. Song Yadong
Dominick Cruz vs. Rob Font
Macy Chiasson vs. Ketlen Vieira
Edson Barboza vs. Steve Garcia
Brendan Allen vs. Anthony Hernandez
Ibo Aslan vs. Ion Cutelaba
Curtis Blaydes vs. Rizvan Kuniev
Islam Dulatov vs. Adam Fugitt
Melsik Baghdasaryan vs. Jean Silva
Modestas Bukauskas vs. Raffael Cerqueira
Mansur Abdul-Malik vs. Nick Klein
Javid Basharat vs. Ricky Simon
Melquizael Costa vs. Andre Fili
