Nick Walsh made a 'monumental mistake' by sending off Mohamed Diomande – and Willie Collum will be raging.

That's the view of former Grade 1 ref Des Roache who told Hotline LIVE that the right decision has been reached in Rangers winning their appeal. The Ibrox side took their case to a fast track tribunal over wrongful dismissal after the Ivorian midfielder was sent packing by referee Walsh in the closing stages of Sunday's 3-1 win at Tannadice. Walsh was sent by VAR to the monitor to review his decision to dismiss Diomande after the midfielder raised his hand to United’s Kevin Holt, although the contact was minimal.

He stood by his decision much to Philippe Clement's derision after the match. The Rangers boss said it would be appealed and vowed the club would win – something that came to pass when the outcome was announced on Tuesday evening. The red card has been rescinded clearing Diomande to face Ross County this weekend, and Roache, speaking with Keith Jackson and Scott McDermott on Record Sport's agenda-setting live show, said: "It’s not a good look for the SFA. Willie Collum won’t be pleased with this at all.

"I’m surprised Nick Walsh jumped in so quickly. How has he gone down this route? I have no idea. Don (Robertson, on VAR) tried to bail him out – he didn't that lifeline.

"Walsh will be held accountable. He may drop down into the Championship. But my personal view is he will be supported then drop down the following week. It's a monumental mistake."
