Nikola Katic: Get to know Plymouth Argyle's newest international
Nikola Katic has become the fourth international player to join Plymouth Argyle in the January transfer window, following the trio of Michael Baidoo (Ghana), Tymoteusz Puchacz (Poland) and Maksym Talovierov (Ukraine).
The 28-year-old Bosnia and Herzegovina defender has been signed on loan from Swiss Super League club FC Zurich until the end of the season and has previous experience of playing in the UK.
Katic signed for Rangers from Croatian club Slaven Belupo in June 2018 and went on to play 59 games over the next two seasons but then suffered a serious knee injury which ruled him out of the 2020/21 campaign.

He then spent the following season on loan to Croatian club Hajduk Split before signing for Swiss Super League side FC Zurich in August 2022. He later agreed an extended contract with them until the summer of 2026.
Katic started 18 of Zurich's 20 league games and scored two goals before the winter break, and also played in their two-legged Europa Conference League qualifiers against Shelbourne from the Republic of Ireland and Portugal's Vitoria Guimaraes.
The defender played for Croatia at under-21 level and made his senior debut as a late substitute in a 2-1 win against Mexico in a friendly played at the Los Angeles Coliseum in the United States in May 2017, but that turned out to be his only appearance for them.
Katic transferred his international allegiance to Bosnia and Herzegovina last year and started June friendly internationals away to England and Italy.
He went on to play in four of Bosnia and Herzegovina's six UEFA Nations League Group A3 games in the autumn, including a 2-0 home defeat by Hungary, when Argyle defender Kornel Szucs made his international debut for the visitors.
Now, three months later, Katic and Szucs are team-mates at Argyle and will have the task, along with Talovierov, of trying to make them a much stronger defensive unit after conceding 62 goals in their 29 Championship games so far this season.
