Nkunku swap, Garnacho signs and Felix sold - Chelsea dream squad after transfer deadline day
Chelsea have been one of the least predictable teams in the transfer market for two-and-a-half years. Ever since the Clearlake Capital-Todd Boehly ownership consortium arrived, it has been heavy spending and big moves.
This January window, much like 12 months ago, has seen a significant halt on activity. Unlike in 2024, this time it hasn't been by design. Chelsea have hardly been out of the headlines.
From Kobbie Mainoo to Liam Delap, Chelsea have been mentioned alongside some of the biggest names all window. Despite that, heading into deadline day it was only one completed incoming for the first-team and that was Trevoh Chalobah's loan recall.
How might Enzo Maresca hope for February 3 to end for his side, though? Taking into account the rules of having no more than 17 non-homegrown players in a Premier League squad, in which those in their Under-21 season or younger do not count towards the total, football.london has taken a look at what might be on the cards.
Goalkeepers: Robert Sanchez, Filip Jorgensen, Marcus Bettinelli
Despite calls for change from the fanbase, Chelsea have not been looking at new goalkeepers this month. With Mike Penders set to join the club in the summer there is internal hope that the answers to Maresca's issues are already onboard.
Filip Jorgensen is yet to get his chance but that may well change. There have only been very minor links to Zion Suzuki but nothing is going to be moving on deadline day. For now, this part of the pitch is settled, whether that is for better or worse.

It initially looked like the backline would be the area for most movement with Marc Guehi remaining a target and Chalobah returning. However, even with Renato Veiga heading on loan there has been a lack of movement.
Chelsea are well stocked at the back and have Levi Colwill and Josh Acheampong as Under-21s to add to the above list. It is for this reason they are willing to let Axel Disasi leave.
Aston Villa buying him would be ideal but a loan looks more likely. Chelsea are keen to get a fee in return, and a large one given they are negotiating with rivals for European football. Tottenham are also in the mix, which would just be funny.
Either way, Chelsea could do with getting the player off the books as he is only hindering Maresca and eating up wages. The sooner something is sorted, the better. Ben Chilwell needs Crystal Palace to come to his rescue after six months on the sidelines.
Under-21: Malo Gusto, Josh Acheampong, Levi Colwill.
Midfielders: Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo
This area of the pitch looks worryingly empty. Even with Romeo Lavia as an Under-21, there is still very little available to Maresca. The Belgian will not be back until March, either.
Cesare Casadei has already gone, not that he was offering much support for the main XI anyway. Carney Chukwuemeka is likely to follow him. Just where he ends up is not clear. RC Strasbourg for the remainder of the season might be the best and only scenario left by deadline day as Chelsea don't plan to sell him on an obligation to buy.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is the one that is up for debate. He didn't seem to have a place in the squad but due to the midfield shortage he has been welcomed gently back in. Chelsea could really do with him playing elsewhere, especially as they have the talented Sam Rak-Sakyi to promote if needed. Kiano Dyer is also more than good enough for Premier League minutes now.
The loan recalls of Andrey Santos and Lesley Ugochukwu are off the cards which left Douglas Luiz as a possible arrival. That hasn't advanced will leave Chelsea in a big hole for the last four months of the season. There are currently no other midfielders strongly linked who can even be thrown in here. It has been a while since the Kobbie Mainoo reports died down.
Under-21: Romeo Lavia, Sam Rak-Sakyi.
Attackers: Cole Palmer, Noni Madueke, Jadon Sancho, Nicolas Jackson, Pedro Neto
The deadline day drama for Chelsea is most likely to come here. If there is to be one major signing then it will surely be Alejandro Garnacho.
With Manchester United still looking to replace Marcus Rashford, Christopher Nkunku could yet be on his way to Old Trafford and that opens up space for Garnacho. If a deal can be reached for less than the £60million quoted price then it might not be a bad one for Chelsea.
They would be gaining a 20-year-old winger with a long-term future at the club, something Nkunku clearly doesn't have after failing to find a role for himself. If Joao Felix joins Aston Villa, either on loan or more preferably on a permanent transfer, then Garnacho would be an effective replacement.
Mykhailo Mudryk is in limbo as he remains out with suspension whilst the wait for his B-sample goes on after testing positive for having a banned substance in his system. Tyrique George is on hand to supply additional attacking firepower as he tries to breakthrough into the senior picture more often.
A striker really is needed, even with Marc Guiu. He is only 19 and doesn't appear ready to impact top-level football just yet. Liam Delap would have been a fine option to come in to join Nicolas Jackson but it looks far too late for that. Evan Ferguson is off the cards as well.
Viktor Gyokeres will also have to wait until the summer. Ideally, a senior No.9 would join on deadline day to bolster Maresca's options. It just doesn't look like that will come to fruition barring some dramatic late twist.
Under-21: Alejandro Garnacho, Tyrique George, Marc Guiu
