No complacency in Lynn camp ahead of Boxing Day clash
Adam Lakeland says his King’s Lynn Town side will avoid the trap of under-estimating lowly opponents today.
The Linnets face struggling Needham Market at The Walks (3pm) – a match that pits the second placed team against the team second from bottom of the National League North.
Lynn are on a six-game unbeaten run, in which they have conceded just once – and know that if leaders Curzon slip up at home to Farsley Celtic, they would go top of the table with a win.
The other reality is the Marketmen do what Lakeland fears - if his team take their foot off the gas.
“They've obviously got promoted into this league and whilst they are obviously down towards the foot of the table, games they have been beaten in, they’ve only been beaten by the odd goal,” he said.
Only once in their last eight games have either Needham or their opponents scored more than a single goal – and while their goals for tally of 14 is the second worst in the league, their defence has clearly strengthened since a 7-1 mauling at Buxton in October.
Lynn’s current run has put them in the mood for a promotion battle in the new year and reinvigorated the feeling around The Walks.
“It's going to be a difficult game, as they all are,” said Lakeland. “But I think it is more about us - we’re skipping into games with a lot of confidence and belief at the minute that we can keep churning out results.
“We’re unbeaten in six and only one goal conceded in those six games and at home our form has been very, very good so it’s about getting back, resting and recovering for what will be a tough game.”
Lakeland looks to have no new injury concerns, with goalkeeper Paul Jones the only likely absentee.
Meanwhile, Lynn have appointed Tom Bunting as head of medical.
Bunting was previously at Cambridge United as a first team sports therapist as well as West Ham United’s academy.
“I’m really excited to be joining my hometown club,” he said. “After discussions with the gaffer and the chairman it’s clear there’s a great environment within the club, and I’m really looking forward to contributing to it.”
