No more roof rows - Wales to play 'inside' at Principality Stadium for next two years
THE roof will be shut at Principality Stadium for the next two years in the Six Nations after a change of protocol.
Previously Wales had to agree with the visiting team if they were to play ‘inside’ for games in the championship.
However, the roof being closed is now the default position and that will be the case over the next two seasons so that Ireland and England in the coming weeks then France, Scotland and Italy next year play in the same conditions.
After starting in France and then having a tricky trip to Italy, Warren Gatland’s men will play in front of a sold-out stadium in their bid to avoid a repeat of their 2024 nightmare.
Welsh Rugby Union chief executive Abi Tierney said: “Selling out both of our home fixtures is an achievement reflective of the excitement building ahead of another thrilling Guinness Six Nations campaign at the world renowned Principality Stadium.
“Both senior men’s home fixtures have been in high demand and this is a fantastic achievement and a sign of the passion and belief that Welsh rugby fans have for this team. “Principality Stadium is one of the most iconic sporting venues in the world and our retractable roof, one of our most distinctive features, enables us to create an amazing atmosphere with the match day experience set to come alive during the2025 Six Nations.”
Wales, wooden spoon winners last season, start in Paris on Friday, January 31 and then head to Rome eight days later.
They host Ireland on Saturday, February 22 and then England on Saturday, March 15 to finish the tournament after the March 8 game in Scotland.
Wales Under-20s host Ireland at Rodney Parade on Friday February 21 while Wales Women also entertain the Irish in Newport on Saturday, April 20, with their game against the English at Principality Stadium.
