'No point playing well and losing' - Blues fans on Crewe defeat
Carlisle United fans gave us their views on X after the 3-2 defeat to Crewe Alexandra on New Year's Day - here is a selection of their comments.
It’s a devastating loss and undoubtedly the poor game management by the coaching staff and players will overshadow, what could have been the performance of the season and I really feel for all those supporters that travelled to Crewe, it’s sickening! (@MarkWard18)
Not good enough. We threw away a winning position, again. A worse defeat given the other results. We need quality. Any new signings have to be fit and ready for the battle. If they aren't, there's no point in signing them. (@BruceVander)
We did pretty much everything right today. Some excellent individual performances. If we'd won that game, as we should, we'd all be cock-a-hoop. Instead, it's the usual despair & wondering, where do we go from here? Hard to be optimistic when every "must win" is a "somehow lose". (@1StevieKilner)
Performance was actually good. Two good goals. Injury time is entirely on the players for me. All experienced enough to know that game needed killing and failed to do it. Cannot blame the manager for that in my opinion. (@parkinsonross)
Absolutely livid. How did we throw that away? How did they find 7 minutes? What even happened with their first goal. I thought that today and Sunday were steps in the right direction. To come away with nothing from that performance is infuriating. We need to add to defence. (@EarnThtDanegeld)
Having had time to reflect, the performance deserved much more than the result. For the majority of the game, they were at least the equal of Crewe. They've got to take that same determination and take the positives out of the game, whilst improving their game management (@CowellLes1975)
Bitterly disappointing especially with how the other games went. Tough ask against a very good side but today was there for the taking. Long run in ahead now… someone give Jimmy Glass a ring before it’s too late! (@GeorgeStWolf)
Everybody will find an answer in that game that confirms their prejudices. No-one will be right. I'm hurting, but not downhearted, but I'm also at a loss what to suggest that might turn this round. (@JHallHDI)
Not much to say, another loss. You can claim we played better, should have won, etc, but it's wins we need & we are not getting. Unfortunately, football is a harsh game & we need wins no matter the performance. (@DougMacd9826)
That result sums us up. Will the club learn from it? No. They never do. How long do we suffer this? (@carlisl9125)
No consolation, Crewe fan said we were the best footballing side they've seen at Gresty Rd! No point being good and losing (@LindaNi121202)
Where to begin! We keep showing more than enough to suggest we can stay up… but then proceed to self destruct. I’m gutted about losing but happy enough with the performance for 90 minutes! We looked clueless & terrified in extra time. (@JRBulman)
Probably the best we’ve played all season. So hard to take. Gutted for the players but we need to start winning soon. (@sirstanley129)
I thought they showed some good football today. Yes it’s a horrible way to get beaten. Let’s get a few players in and it’ll get better. (@Davvytommo)
Heartbreaking…Played really well apart from last 10 minutes. All that hard work and nowt to show for it. MUST win a few games soon! (@snakeeyes7475)
Results have gone massively against us today , the owners don't seem to have learnt anything at all from last season where Simpson was given the January window and we all know how that ended ! Williamson has to go he isn't the man to turn the club around (@cmackay414)
We sadly deserve to be at the bottom of the league football pyramid. I’ve thought it a while now but finishing 3rd bottom would represent huge success this season. There is so much at stake, unlike 2005 with Simpson and Story u felt we’d bounce back straight away. (@fatflags)
Threw it away. No game management. Why is Williamson playing Jones at right wing back when he doesn’t have the athleticism for the role? Barclay was dreadful, responsible for the first goal and constantly giving the ball away and out of position. (@MikeTurney7)
Performance wise, we were the better team & deserved 3 points, but the bottle of this team, to lose from 2-1 up with 5 minutes left is shocking, have to question the character of some of those players. (@joeleigh95)
Gutted tbf. Best we’ve played bar the last couple of minutes. Really positive from the first whistle. Few more players in the door we should be fine (@ashlazy1991)
Massively frustrating. Could/should have won that. Played well in parts without being in control. Two crucial moments - allowing Barclay to swing aimless cross in instead of plating wide to Jones. And subbing of B/mouth boys. Played with spirit and skill with existing squad. Best for months until injury time. SEVEN mins a travesty. (@McCarlisle1)
I don't know how we lost! We played so well for 90 minutes... (@adydent67)
He needs to be a good tactician, able to motivate and change tactics, in games to get a result. (@GizmoBell)
Not a real surprise. We've been weak for 18 month. It's ingrained in the squad. Ok we played a bit better today. How do you not see the game out? A draw would have been a let down but a defeat - not good enough. I hope the signings this month are better, if not we're screwed (@alstlkr1967)
Still half of the season left. He’s going nowhere until the end of the season so let’s see what he does in the transfer window and get behind the boys. A couple of shrewd signings to add some goals and I believe we can not only stay up but push on. (@michaellee55188)
Said when we went 2-1 up that we would need a 3rd, the car was very quiet for the 4 hours home as no one knew really what to say (@skythelimit1970)
We are simply a disgrace!! No matter how good we played, performances won't keep us up!! We need points, end of the day it's another defeat on Williamson record, this needs to be the last time he steps foot into a dugout as our manager, owners got it wrong with him! (@Darrenblues90)
Some just aren't good enough (@jocktommo87)
