No Rob Edwards exit impact expected as Middlesbrough plot next step after Isaiah Jones sale
Rob Edwards' Luton Town departure is not expected to impact Isaiah Jones's Middlesbrough exit, with the winger set to seal a move to Kenilworth Road.
Jones was in Luton on Thursday to finalise his move to Hatters by undergoing his medical and agreeing personal terms after a deal worth up to £5 million was agreed with Boro. As the 25-year-old puts the finishing touches to his move though, Luton made the decision to sack Edwards - who had been in the frame for the Boro job when Michael Carrick was ultimately appointed.
Edwards leaves despite guiding the Hatters to the Premier League in his first season. Suffering relegation last term, he's ultimately been unable to arrest their slump this season, with Luton sitting 20th after Monday's defeat to QPR. Despite that, with Luton - like Boro and many other clubs - operating with a recruitment team and coaching team - the decision to sack Edwards is not expected to impact Jones's Boro exit.

Boro boss Michael Carrick refused to be drawn on it in Thursday's press conference to preview Saturday's game with Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup due to it being an incomplete deal. However, he admitted Boro will be plotting what their next move is in the transfer market, with Jones's exit creating a gap in their squad that will allow them to bring a player in - either as a direct replacement for Jones or to strengthen another area in the squad.
"Nothing is really done to be honest at this stage," Carrick said on Jones. "It's that time of year where there's a lot of interest. There's interest, from what I hear, in a number of our players. We have some good players so we understand that. There's always a call of what's right for everyone. We always try to make the right decision."
On adding to his squad, which Jones's exit will allow, he added: "It's ifs and buts, really. There's nothing or nobody to replace at this stage. It's just a constant balancing act and way of looking at it and seeing what we need and what will benefit us, certainly in the short term for the next three or four months to then what the group looks like moving forward as well.
"There's different eyes on it, what we need here and now but also an eye on the future as well. Regardless of any individual, we do feel we've got a good squad, but it doesn't stop us from trying to improve things. There are always moving parts in some way shape or form. It's something we've got to judge and address as it moves along but we're always trying to improve. We'll see how it unfolds over the next couple of weeks."
