Dan Woike: Sources tell me Austin Reaves received imaging on his back and that it showed no structural damage after a scary fall Friday against OKC. He is with the team on their flight to SLC but he’s dealing with soreness from the play.

More on this storyline

This is something they are trying to address though as head coach JJ Redick revealed that they had a very physical and competitive practice session on Monday. When Reaves was asked about that, he talked about the Lakers wanting to be more physical defensively moving forward and forcing the referees’ hands a bit. “I think if you watch basketball for a long time, the teams that are ‘physical defensive teams’ might get away with a little more just because every possession you can’t call a foul,” Reaves said. “So we’re trying to get to that where we’re physical every possession and we have to make the refs call fouls. Our personnel, if we’re honest with ourselves, isn’t the best defensively. Obviously we got AD that covers up a lot, but we have to be physical out on the perimeter and especially when we’re boxing out. We got to do a better job defensively in transition as well.” -via Lakers Nation / November 25, 2024

Austin Reaves has been impressed with Knecht dating back to the guard’s time at Tennessee and revealed he would text him after games. “I just randomly one day saw him going crazy doing what he did in college and obviously I was very impressed with the way he scores the ball,” Reaves said after practice on Monday. “The way he willed his Tennessee team to a lot of wins was special and I’d like to show my respects when I really like guys that have a lot of talent, and he’s one of those guys. I would text him after games that I saw and congratulate him on the accolades that he was putting up. That’s really it.” -via Lakers Nation / November 18, 2024
