Ruben Amorim reiterated he will stick to his plan ahead of Manchester United's game against Liverpool on Sunday.

Marcus Rashford and Godwill Kukonki have dropped out of the squad that faced Newcastle, with Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte recalled after serving suspensions.

Amorim has made three changes to his starting XI and the midfield has been freshened up, with Kobbie Mainoo and Ugarte coming into the starting team for Christian Eriksen and Casemiro.

Fernandes has replaced Joshua Zirkzee and he will captain United on what is expected to be a difficult afternoon at Anfield, given Liverpool are sitting at the top of the league.

Amorim spoke to Sky Sports ahead of kick-off and said: "We have to take the ball in a different way to this team used to do it, like more in transition, but now we have to take the ball slowly. We need to build up in a different way and I will not change that because it's the way I see the game.

"Then we need to give some structure to the team, strong defenders to control better the game, but if you look at Mazraoui, he is maybe one of the best ones to take the ball and try to drive the ball. We want to have the ball and in the last games we suffered the first goal from set-pieces.

"We need strong guys in set-pieces to try avoid these moments that are really hurting us. Of course, from the outside it's really easy to pick a team after a game but in this moment I choose the team that I think gives us the best chance of winning the game."

Amorim was asked about Rashford and added: "He's still ill, so he's not available for the game."

United head into Sunday's clash on Merseyside in 14th position in the table and Ipswich Town were set to be just four points behind until Fulham snatched a late 2-2 draw at Craven Cottage.

Amorim's side are just six points above the relegation places and the prospect of a relegation battle has been discussed by United's head coach in the last few weeks amid a bad run of results.

The 39-year-old has implemented a new style of play at United but poor results have continued.
