'Not stupid' Wayne Rooney faces music as Plymouth Argyle booed off after Coventry City hammering
Wayne Rooney insists he is still the right man to manage Plymouth Argyle after overseeing yet another wretched away day defeat.
The Greens were hammered 4-0 by Coventry City, with all the goals coming in a desperate first half, before being booed off at the end.
The result leaves them bottom of the table and with the worst away record in the EFL, with just two points from 12 games.
Coventry were ahead after just five minutes as Tatsu Sakamoto headed in Ben Sheaf’s cross before Josh Eccles doubled their lead with a low drive. Ephron Mason-Clark then beat the offside trap to add a third for the Sky Blues before Eccles scored his second just before half-time, Plymouth then lost Callum Wright to a late red card.

When asked if he was still the right man for the job Rooney told the BBC: "I believe I am. I know how football works, I'm not stupid, you need to pick up results.
"The biggest frustration for me all season really is we look like two different teams at home and a way. So psychologically is there an issue? It's something we're looking at.
"I'm sure the fans have questions, I'm sure a lot of people from the outside will, and I'll do my best to answer them as best I can."
Speaking to Press Association Rooney also said: “What I was really disappointed with was the goals we conceded because we know what Coventry’s strengths were.
“We identified them, especially about putting crosses into the box towards the back post and then to concede so early on exactly on what we knew they’d do was very disappointing.
“The big issue for us today was lads didn’t switch on quick enough. It’s a silly tackle [from Wright]. I think he has a wild tackle just before that, and I get it, I’ve been there myself as a player.
“It’s disappointing because we prepared well for the game, we’ve done everything we felt was right for the game and then all the fans paid a lot of money, because the ticket prices were quite high.
“They’ve obviously travelled over this [festive] period and to come and see the performance, especially in the first half, they’ve every right to be disappointed.”
