'Nothing is going to take my eye off the ball here' - Matt Bloomfield on Luton links
Wycombe Wanderers manager Matt Bloomfield has admitted it’s ‘flattering’ that he has been linked to the vacant role at Luton Town.
The 40-year-old has steered the Chairboys to second place in League One at the time of writing and has been nominated for three Manager of the Month awards this season, winning it on two occasions.
He has also helped the Adams Park side reach the FA Cup fourth round for the first time in four years, as well as reaching the third round of the League Cup in three seasons.
His brilliant first half of the campaign saw him get linked to the job at Coventry City in November, but that went to Frank Lampard.
And with Rob Edwards now having left the Hatters, Bloomfield’s name has once again appeared on a list of potential candidates.
Speaking after the 2-0 win over Portsmouth on January 10, he said: “It’s obviously flattering as you get don’t linked to other jobs if you’re doing poorly and it is lovely to be spoken about, but nothing is going to take my eye off the ball here.
“I’m very passionate about my job and I have given this club everything over 21-and-a-bit years and I will continue to do that.
“I try my best to get my passion and enthusiasm across to the players.”
His comments came after the Chairboys knocked out the 2008 winners at Adams Park.
They will now be in the hat for the fourth round, which will take place on January 12.
He continued: “I’m just really excited to be part of the FA Cup.
“You can sometimes get caught up in your league form with the noise around it, but with the FA Cup, I just want to be a part of it.
“We have had a tough and busy run of games, so to finish off with a high is great.
“We had a very important game against Portsmouth and I was desperate to win and get through.”
