Nottingham Forest have confirmed the return of midfielder James Ward-Prowse to parent club West Ham United.

The 30-year-old was due to spend the campaign on loan at the City Ground. However, his stint with Nuno Espirito Santo's Reds has been brought to an early end.

A statement from Forest said: "Nottingham Forest can confirm that James Ward-Prowse has returned to parent club West Ham United after a mutual agreement was reached between the two clubs.

"The 30-year-old midfielder made 10 appearances for Forest in all competitions, making his debut in our 1-0 win against Liverpool at Anfield. Everyone at Forest thanks James for his professionalism and dedication during his time at the club and wishes him well for the future."

The absence of the West Ham United loanee from the Reds’ match squad for Saturday’s 7-0 thumping of Brighton and Hove Albion felt telling. And so it has proved, with the 30-year-old heading back to the capital.

Forest head coach Nuno Espirito Santo now has Danilo and Ibrahim Sangare back from injury to bolster his options in the centre of the pitch. Agreeing to end Ward-Prowse’s loan spell feels like a sensible decision.

Ward-Prowse was valued by Nuno for his professionalism and influence in the dressing room, despite his lack of game time Trentside. Reports have suggested Hammers boss Graham Potter is keen to work with the player.
