Nottingham Forest faced with Morgan Gibbs-White transfer warning amid contract decision
Liverpool are said to be keeping tabs on Nottingham Forest ace Morgan Gibbs-White as the January transfer window begins to spring into life.
The attacker is a key player for the Reds and has been integral to their rise up the Premier League table this term. He scored his fourth goal of the season on Monday night as Nuno Espirito Santo’s side secured a sixth successive win by beating Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-0.
Gibbs-White has never been short of admirers amid his impressive form in the Garibaldi. And with clubs looking to bolster their squads before the winter window closes on February 3, he is in the spotlight again.
According to the Daily Mail, Arne Slot’s league leaders are among a number of teams “with a keen interest” in the 24-year-old’s progress. The report points out that Newcastle United and Aston Villa made “tentative enquiries” in the summer and Manchester City have long been “aware” of his quality.
Talks have taken place with Gibbs-White over a new deal at the City Ground as Forest are well aware of his importance to the team and of how he has caught the eye of rivals. He penned a five-year contract with the club when he joined from Wolves for an initial £25 million in the summer of 2022.
Securing the futures of a number of their prized assets is a priority for the Reds at present. They want to tie down full-back Ola Aina and striker Chris Wood before they become free agents in the summer, while discussions have also been held with centre-back Murillo about putting pen to paper on improved terms.
England international Gibbs-White delivered the perfect response to taunts from the home crowd when he returned to Molineux on Monday. He opened the scoring for the visitors and celebrated with his trademark fingers-in-ears pose.
“I think it means a lot. Every time he scores it’s important because we need him and his talent,” head coach Nuno said of the playmaker’s goal against his former club.
“Of course, for us who have been here at Wolves, it has a different feeling on it. I know he is forever thankful to Wolves. His career continued to Forest and it was not the first time he returned to Molineux. We need him to score.”

Liverpool have also been linked with Reds midfielder Elliot Anderson, who has been superb since his summer switch from Newcastle. However, Nuno has consistently stressed the club’s priority is to retain the core of their squad this month as they push to secure European football.
Forest are currently six points adrift of Arne Slot's table-toppers. The two teams will meet at the City Ground next Tuesday (January 14, 8pm kick-off) for a mouth-watering clash.
