Retaining their key players is the main priority for Nottingham Forest as they go into the final two days of the transfer window.

Aside from re-signing goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey on a short-term contract, the Reds are yet to welcome any new additions in the winter window. Head coach Nuno Espirito Santo is entirely relaxed about the situation and continues to insist the club should only do business if it improves his squad.

Bringing in a striker would certainly bolster the Portuguese’s attacking options. But although he has admitted “anything can happen” before Monday’s 11pm deadline, he has been very clear about the club’s primary focus.

“While the window is open, it is open. Anything can happen,” Nuno said after his team’s emphatic 7-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion at the City Ground. “But I will reinforce what I have been saying, not only to you (the media) but also to the club, more than anything our priority was to keep the players.

“If it is something really special; if it is a piece - a player - that we really need and it is possible, fantastic, because we are not perfect and if somebody can help us, great. But that has to be somebody really special.”

Forest had a bid rejected for Brentford front man Yoane Wissa rejected earlier in the window. It remains to be seen whether they will try their luck again before the window closes.

Nuno’s men are managing well enough without any new faces. Chris Wood bagged a hat-trick to see off the Seagulls, while Morgan Gibbs-White, Neco Williams and Jota Silva also found the back of the net after a Lewis Dunk own goal had opened the scoring in Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off.

It is likely to be a relatively quiet deadline day Trentside. The Reds have done a lot of work previously in terms of moving on fringe players, but attacker Emmanuel Dennis and midfielder Lewis O'Brien could head elsewhere before the cut-off.
