Nottingham Forest player ratings as Reds struggle in Bournemouth thumping
Nottingham Forest’s unbeaten streak came to a crashing halt as bogey team Bournemouth ran out 5-0 winners on the south coast.
A clash between two in-form teams with designs on securing European football saw Nuno Espirito Santo’s men go into the game looking to extend their unbeaten run to 10 matches in all competitions. But they went into the fixture without winger Callum Hudson-Odoi, who was ruled out with the groin problem he sustained in the 3-2 victory over Southampton.
It was almost the perfect start for the Reds as Anthony Elanga had an opportunity almost straight from kick-off. The wide man could only find the side-netting, though, and instead it was the Cherries who took an early lead.

Justin Kluivert was given too much time and space to fire in from outside the box with just nine minutes on the clock. Forest responded in positive fashion with Ryan Yates, Morgan Gibbs-White and Elliot Anderson all trying their luck. But they needed Matz Sels to come to the rescue and keep out Ryan Christie and Antoine Semenyo before the break.
Nikola Milenkovic almost made it 1-1 immediately after the interval but saw his header saved. It was a missed chance the visitors were left to rue as Dango Ouattara scored twice in the space of six minutes to kill the game off. Having had one goal chalked off for an offside, Ouattara wrapped up his hat-trick in the closing minutes to rub salt in the visitors’ wound before Semenyo added a fifth. The Cherries are now unbeaten in their past 10 league matches against Forest - a bogey side, indeed.
Here’s how Reds reporter Sarah Clapson rated the Forest players at the Vitality Stadium...
Matz Sels: Kept his team in it in the first half with a couple of important stops, but they were unable to capitalise on it. Will be hugely frustrated at the goals conceded as they were so un-Forest like. A painful watch. Rating: 4.5/10
Ola Aina: Has been Mr Consistent for so long that it’s noticeable when he puts in a below-par performance. Has set such high standards for himself, but wasn’t the only one not at the races on this occasion. Rating: 4/10
Nikola Milenkovic: A case of what might have been. If only his header had gone in after the break to make it 1-1. Defensively, Forest were well below the levels they have set, though. Rating: 4/10
Murillo: Not the way he would have wanted to mark signing a new deal. Seemed to be struggling at times and was out-jumped for the second before being beaten again for the third. Rating: 4/10
Neco Williams: Taunted with chants of ‘Neco, Neco what’s the score’ from the home fans as he made his way off not long after the third goal had gone in. A bad day at the office from front to back for Nuno’s side. Rating: 4/10
Ryan Yates: Guilty of losing the ball from a throw-in, which Bournemouth then took advantage of to score. Responded with a decent effort as he drew a save from Kepa Arrizabalaga, but hooked at half-time as Forest needed to change something. Rating: 5/10
Elliot Anderson: Had some decent moments but the Reds were not at it at all on the south coast. Midfield struggled to cope with the hosts at times. A chastening result, to say the least. Rating: 5.5/10
Jota Silva: A big opportunity for the summer signing as he replaced the injured Callum Hudson-Odoi for his first league start since early December. But didn’t make much of an impact in an unusually poor performance all round for the Reds. Rating: 5/10
Morgan Gibbs-White: Didn’t see a great deal of the ball, and when he did get it perhaps tried a little too hard to make something happen. Couldn’t find a moment of magic on this occasion. Rating: 5/10
Anthony Elanga: Could have been a completely different game if his very early chance had gone in. Seemed the most likely to create something and even forced a save in the dying minutes when the game was all but over. Rating: 5.5/10
Chris Wood: Didn’t really get any kind of opportunity in front of goal. Forest had a few opportunities but this really was an afternoon to forget all round. No chance of celebrating his new contract with a goal. Rating: 5/10
Substitutes
Nicolas Dominguez (for Yates, 46mins): Couldn’t change the game in the Reds’ favour when he came on for the second half. It was a capitulation in the second 45 minutes. Rating: 5/10
Morato (for Jota, 66mins): Has usually been so good at coming on and keeping things tight. Not this time, though. One to write off and learn from. Rating: 4.5/10
Alex Moreno (for Williams, 66mins): Could do little to help stem the flow of goals. Nuno will not be happy with the way his team simply folded. Rating: 4.5/10
Ramon Sosa (for Aina, 79mins): Tough to make any kind of impression when the visitors were already beaten by that point. A bitter pill for Forest to swallow. Rating: 5/10
Taiwo Awoniyi (for Gibbs-White, 79mins): Game was well and truly done by the time he came on. Not a lot he could do to make any kind of inroads for the Reds. Rating: 5/10
Subs not used: Miguel, Toffolo, Ward-Prowse, Boly.
