Nottingham Forest 'ready to make a play' for Premier League ace as huge transfer coup targeted
Nottingham Forest are said to be eyeing up a January swoop for Wolverhampton Wanderers star Matheus Cunha.
Bolstering head coach Nuno Espirito Santo’s attacking resources is a priority for the Reds this month as they push for European football. It would be a huge coup if they manage to secure the services of Wolves ace Cunha, who has already bagged 10 goals so far this season.
According to the Daily Mail, the 25-year-old is “at the top” of Forest’s shopping list with less than a fortnight of the transfer window remaining. The club are said to have “serious interest” in Cunha and are “ready to make a play” for the forward.

The Reds could have a fight on their hands to snap up his signature. Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are also reported to be keen on the Brazil international.
Meanwhile, Cunha is said to have held talks with Wolves over a new contract. However, the Mirror report discussions “appear to have stalled”.
Forest have already had a £22 million bid for Brentford’s Yoane Wissa rebuffed as they attempt to add more firepower to the squad. They have until 11pm on Monday, February 3 to get any deals over the line before the transfer window closes.
If Cunha does make the switch to the City Ground, he would join an already-strong Brazilian contingent at the club. Defender Murillo has just penned a new contract and the Reds also have Danilo, Morato and Carlos Miguel on the books.
Boss Nuno previously had a successful spell in charge in the West Midlands and Forest also have a couple of former Wolves players already in their ranks. Centre-back Willy Boly joined from Molineux in the summer of 2022, as did Morgan Gibbs-White - the latter for an initial £25m.
Last week, Nuno confirmed the Reds are on the lookout for new additions. But he stressed it is a difficult window to operate in, with the club wary of disrupting the momentum that has seen them climb to third in the Premier League table.
“We are in the market, that’s not an if,” Nuno said. “But the transfer window in January is very difficult to operate in, and we are aware of that.
“One of the things we are sure about - and it’s not an if - is that we have a good squad. We have good options and healthy players - Danilo is coming along and Ibrahim (Sangare) is closer to returning.
“This is not an if, this is a reality, we have a good squad. This is what we have to focus on, our players and how we want to continue in the competition. No matter what happens the ones that are here are the ones that are going to solve the problems.”
