Manchester United suffered their first home defeat to Nottingham Forest for 30 years on Saturday evening as the hosts slumped to back-to-back defeats.

The 3-2 loss marks their sixth defeat in 15 Premier League matches, having won just a third of them. As a result, they are stuck down in 13th, six points off the top four.

United have conceded three goals from set-pieces in the past two matches with outfield players criticised for their defensive set-up, but Andre Onana - who has been largely in form this season - was solely to blame for Forrest’s second of the night.

A fairly routine shot slipped under his grasp just after half-time, even to the surprise of goal scorer Morgan Gibbs-White himself. Meanwhile, one former player has said named which two players United rely on for their attacking creativity.

Gibbs-White makes Onana admission

Gibbs-White admitted to Sky Sports after full-time that even he didn’t expect his shot to go into the net. His strike was aimed almost straight at Onana, who was bamboozled by the swerve of the ball and conceded his second of the night.

“I didn’t [think it was going in] at all, to be fair,” said Gibbs-White. “I don’t want to discredit Onana, he’s an incredible goalkeeper, but when I had the shot, I thought he was going to pick it up.

“But hey, you count them, don’t you! I’m happy to contribute to the team.”

MEN Sport says: While last season was littered with such errors from Onana, the goalkeeper has largely remained consistent this term. His saves against Ipswich, for example, should not be forgotten.

But there will be long-term questions whether he will be Amorim’s long-term No.1. That’s not to say Onana will be sold any time soon but, ultimately, United cannot afford their first-choice shot-stopper to be liable to a few howlers a season if they want to reclimb the ranks.

Fernandes and Amad handed new titles

Former United midfielder Owen Hargeaves has pinpointed Bruno Fernandes and Amad as the two creative sparks in the United team right now. It was puzzling to him, therefore, that Fernandes was brought off before full-time.

He told Premier League Productions: “I was amazed [Fernandes] went off. He had scored one, helping assist another, and was very threatening.

“He’s the guy, him and Amad, right now, they’re gonna create you something. I’m sure [Ruben] Amorim will regret that.”

MEN Sport says: It’s hard to think of who else is providing that attacking spark for United right now. Amorim said he brought Fernandes off due to fatigue but I would suggest this is the last time for a while such a move is made.

United suffered when he was replaced and Amad, 22, is too young to do it all on his own. Too many changes stunt the momentum of the team, which is one lesson learned from the Forest defeat.
