Nottingham Forest statement hijacked as Evangelos Marinakis receives takeover response
Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has received Vasco da Gama takeover pleas, after being recognised for “a winning career dedicated to football”.
Marinakis received the European Golden Boy 2024 Career Award at a ceremony in Italy on Monday night for “a career dedicated to football, a winning career dedicated to football”, with organisers adding: “Evangelos Marinakis has won by making young talent flourish, which is why he receives the Golden Boy Career Award.”
The Reds said: “Congratulations to our owner, Evangelos Marinakis, on winning the Golden Boy Career Award.”
Marinakis was at the gala event to receive the award as a video montage capturing the unrivalled success he has enjoyed over many years with Olympiacos, culminating in last season’s historic Europa Conference League triumph for the Greek club, was played on a big screen inside the ceremony at the International Museum of the Automobile in Turin.
Forest’s message to their owner on social media prompted many congratulatory replies from Reds fans and was also hijacked by Vasco supporters keen to see Marinakis take ownership of their club. One fan said “Congratulations and come to Vasco da Gama!” while another added “find a way for him to come to Vasco”.
One supporter said “Find a way to convince him to go to Vasco Forest please” and another simply replied “VASCO DA GAMA”.
Marinakis is said to be the ‘leading candidate’ to complete a takeover of Vasco as he looks to add to his portfolio of clubs across the globe.
