Santiago Gimenez is said to be not for sale this month as Nottingham Forest look to strengthen their striker options in January.

The Reds tried to sign the Feyenoord striker during the summer, but he rejected a move to the City Ground after talks with the club.

It was suggested he turned a transfer down because he feared joining a relegation battle in the Premier League, which has been proven spectacularly wrong with Nuno Espirito Santo’s side currently in third place in the Premier League behind Liverpool and Arsenal.

Feyenoord’s director of football Dennis te Kloese also said Gimenez stayed at Feyenoord because he didn’t “get a very warm feeling” about joining Forest.

Speaking to ESPN, Gimenez also revealed he discussed a potential move to Forest with Liverpool boss Arne Slot.

Slot signed Gimenez for Feyenoord in July 2022 and the Mexico international striker enjoyed two prolific seasons under the Dutchman before he departed for Anfield last summer.

He said: “I spoke to him (Slot) a couple of times when I got that offer.

“I asked him for his advice, and he gave it to me. The content of the conversation remains between us, but that was the last time we spoke.”

It is unclear if Forest retain an interest in the player, but transfer insider Fabrizio Romano insists Gimenez is not for sale during the January transfer window. “Feyenoord consider Santiago Gimenez not available for sale in January,” he said on X. “Despite recent links, Feyenoord insist to keep all their top players.”
