Nuno Tavares: Marseille target return for Arsenal defender on loan at Nottingham Forest

Arsenal defender Nuno Tavares is attracting interest from Marseille.

The French club are in the market for a new left-back before the January transfer window shuts after Renan Lodi joined Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal last week.

Nuno, who spent last season on loan at Marseille, is understood to be one of the options being explored.

The left-back is currently out of favour at Arsenal and is on loan at Nottingham Forest after joining them in the summer.

There is no recall clause in Nuno’s loan at Forest, which is due to run until the end of the season, which may complicate a deal.

The 23-year-old had slipped down the pecking order at Forest under former boss Steve Cooper, but has enjoyed a run in the team under new coach Nuno Espirito Santo.

Nuno has started the last two games and Forest may be reluctant to let him go given that they are currently short on players.

Forest have six players away at this month’s Africa Cup of Nations, which is more than any other Premier League side.

As well as Nuno, Marseille’s left-back targets are, according to reports in France, said to include Nantes’ Quentin Merlin and Adrien Truffert from Rennes.

The French club have already signed one left-back this month - Ulisses Garcia from Young Boys - but a replacement is needed for Lodi.

Marseille received around £20million by agreeing to sell Lodi, who had only moved to the club in the summer after Atletico Madrid agreed to let him go for around £10m.
