Arsenal take on Aston Villa in what is certainly an emotional reunion for the Gunners. Unai Emery is effectively the coach who ended the club’s hopes of winning the title as Ollie Watkins scored to inflict the only defeat suffered by the club in the second half of the league season.

Determined to change that record, Arsenal have recovered their form following two cup defeats last week and were dominant while still lacking clinical finishing in the box, as they won the North London Derby on Wednesday night. Emery’s side meanwhile also won.

The Villans eked out a 1-0 win at Everton to start off David Moyes’ second tenure with the club with a defeat. Everton had plenty of chances in the game and should have come away with more on the night.

In terms of Arsenal, what a dream line-up might look like sadly even in the wildest of unlikely scenarios would not involve a new signing. It would need to happen by tomorrow and even then it would be a big push.

The earliest we might see one is next week for the Champions League clash with Dinamo Zagreb. If not then, the trip to Wolves the following weekend.

For now, David Raya of course will be starting in net and looking to continue his fine form as Arsenal’s goalkeeper. Jurrien Timber needs to continue to pile in the minutes as the wait for Ben White’s return continues although it is thought to be getting closer.

Gabriel, William Saliba and Myles Lewis-Skelly will all surely start more matches too and it could be a back four which becomes the go-to for the club. The 18-year-old has been a massive hit since he broke into the side.

The midfield trio of Declan Rice, Thomas Partey and Martin Odegaard also persists. Rotation can be saved for the European match where the likes of Mikel Merino and Jorginho may again get minutes.

Up top, while Kai Havertz may not have scored despite having two good-headed chances, the support from fans was brilliant and that will need to continue into this weekend. Leandro Trossard’s winning derby goal keeps him in the team too.

Mikel Arteta alluded to Ethan Nwaneri being close to a return and in this dream scenario, it would be great to see him back in the fold also.
