Reading boss Noel Hunt has confirmed that Southampton are interested in acquiring teenager Andre Garcia, but the valuation is yet to be made.

The 17-year-old has caught the eye since breaking through into the first-team over the summer, making nearly 30 appearances in his first year as a professional.

With less than a fortnight remaining of the transfer window, many had expected the club to have lost key players by now, but the manager had said on Thursday that no official bids had been received.

However, reports emerged on Friday that the Saints, rock-bottom of the Premier League, had seen a bid rejected by the Royals and were pulling together a second package worth up to £2m.

Speaking after the 2-0 defeat to Leyton Orient on Saturday, the Royals boss had confirmed that the package was not enticing as originally stated and the valuation is yet to be met.

"I spoke to Brian [Carey]. There’s a lot more detail that goes into that [£2m offer]," he said. "The initial start and that, it’s all a big factor in that. Don’t believe everything you read. There were a couple of calls and there is something behind it but nothing that we feel is the valuation that we think Andre is worth."

The window closes at 11pm on Monday, February 3.
