Former NFL superstar OJ Simpson has been released from a Nevada prison after serving a nine-year sentence for armed robbery.

The 70-year-old, who also previously appeared in Hollywood blockbuster movies, left the facility early on Sunday morning.

He was sent to prison for a botched hotel-room robbery of sports memorabilia, 12 years after he was acquitted of killing his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman in Los Angeles in one of the most infamous trials in US history.

However, unlike when he walked free in 1995, Simpson this time faces parole supervision for another five years.

Simpson told a parole board that he wanted to live in Florida but the Florida Department of Corrections said officials had not received a transfer request or required documents.

His attorney, Malcolm LaVergne, told ABC News that upon his release, Simpson wants to go to back to the sunshine state to “see his family and hug his family on the outside of prison.”

“He wants to eat seafood, he wants to eat steak,” LaVergne explained. “He wants to enjoy the very simple pleasures that he hasn’t enjoyed in nine years.”

Meanwhile, murder victim Goldman’s father and sister, Fred and Kim Goldman, released in a statement last week confirming they will continue pursuing the judgment awarded to them in a civil trial, during which Simpson was found liable for the deaths.

The amount they are owed is now said to have climbed to $60 million.

“While we respect the Nevada Parole Board’s decision to release Simpson, it’s still difficult for us knowing he will be a free man again,” the Goldmans said in their statement.

“We will continue pursuing the now $60 million judgment awarded to our family after the [civil trial] jury found that Simpson willfully and wrongfully caused the deaths of Ron and Nicole, as well as remain dedicated in our commitment to domestic violence awareness, victim advocacy and judicial reform.”
