Manchester United legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has insisted that he is not preparing a bid for either Marcus Rashford or Casemiro as the new manager of Besiktas.

The Norwegian had been out of work since leaving United in 2021 but returned to professional football this past weekend when he was appointed the new manager of the Istanbul club. Solskjaer's first game in charge comes in the Europa League against Athletic Bilbao this Thursday.

But, as it is January, the topic of transfers loomed large in Solskjaer's first media obligations for Besiktas. Two names put toward the ex-United manager were Rashford and Casemiro.

Rashford announced in December that he would entertain the idea of a new chapter away from United meanwhile Casemiro has been linked with a switch to Saudi Arabia as Ruben Amorim looks to get big earners off his books. While both of their futures are unclear, what does seem certain is that neither man will end up with Solskjaer.

"I’ve come from Manchester United, so there will be transfer news like this," the former Molde and Cardiff City manager explained. "Casemiro and Rashford are very good players, but I haven’t had any contact with them.

"I enjoyed my time at Manchester United. That chapter is closed.

"I’m looking forward to working at Besiktas now. The Bilbao game will be tough, but we are ready."

Unlike in most of European football, the Turkish transfer windows tend to stay open later.

"The January window in Turkey is due to close on February 11 which allows Solskjaer the opportunity to offer salvation to players who miss out on deals before the February 3 deadline in most of European football's top leagues.
