Besiktas manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is believed to have scuppered Leeds United's chances of signing former Liverpool star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain before deadline day.

The January transfer window in England shuts on Monday offering Leeds their final chance to make purchases and/or loan deals before the season ends. The Whites will still be able to sign free agents after tomorrow but those options are limited in the second half of the campaign.

Recently, Leeds were tipped to complete one of the most surprising signings of the transfer window by bringing Oxlade-Chamberlain to Elland Road. The 31-year-old moved to the Istanbul club following the expiration of his contract at Anfield.

In his first campaign in Turkey, the midfielder was used consistently however he was frozen out during Giovanni van Bronckhorst's final months in charge. After he was sacked, Oxlade-Chamberlain was reintroduced into the squad but it was felt the damage may have been done.

Reporst surfaced suggesting that Oxlade-Chamberlain wanted to move back to the Premier League or, at the very least, a top end Championship club. The lure of being closer to his family was thought to be behind that desire.

However, upon Solskjaer's arrival in Turkey, his position appears to have changed. Turkish media outlet Sports Digitale reports that the Norwegian sat down with Oxlade-Chamberlain recently in what was described as a 'very good meeting'.

The consensus in Turkey is that Oxlade-Chamberlain is now committed to staying at Besiktas for the remainder of the season. This of course means that Leeds will miss out on signing the midfielder.

His current deal in Istanbul expires at the end of the 2025/26 season so Leeds may have a chance to poach Oxlade-Chamberlain at the end of this season as Solskjaer looks to avoid losing him on a free.

In the meantime, the Whites find themselves in great shape sitting top of the Championship after a thumping 7-0 victory over Cardiff City.
