Ole Gunnar Solskjaer highlighted his Manchester United record following his appointment at Besiktas.

"You are my Solskjaer, my Ole Solskjaer," is still sung by supporters on matchdays and Solskjaer remains loved at Old Trafford for his achievements as a United player.

Solskjaer's stint as United manager ended when he was sacked in November 2021. Some still believe that he was unfairly treated and the Norwegian took some time out of the game following his emotional departure, but he has finally taken his next job in management with Turkish side Besiktas.

Besiktas, who are usually Süper Lig title challengers, are sixth in the Turksih top-flight and Solskjaer compared the job to the situation he inherited at United after Jose Mourinho's exit.

Solskjaer spoke at his Besiktas unveiling and said: "I've been outside football for a little while, as a boss. But I've been working in UEFA and I've been following football as well as this club. This project seems a little bit like Manchester United for me. We were sixth, then we become third and then second.

"And this is step by step. Of course, we're here to win, so hopefully we can make it faster. But we have to be realistic. And yes, I had many offers, but as I said before, it had to be the right offer worth me moving away from my perfect life. You need to feel that heartbeat racing again."

Solskjaer added: "Because [you ask yourself] 'do you have the energy?' and the project that the president and the board have been talking to me about, it was the right thing I needed now.

"I've been following United [since I left] and it's difficult when it goes down. You need to just turn the boat and hopefully we can turn the boat quickly here."

Erik ten Hag replaced Solskjaer and won the Carabao Cup and FA Cup during his tenure, but the Dutchman spent over £600million and left a mess which Ruben Amorim must now clean up.

United are currently 13th in the Premier League and Amorim admitted the current side might be the worst in the club's history when he reflected on the defeat to Brighton on Sunday.

Solskjaer led United into the top four in back-to-back seasons for the first time since Sir Alex Ferguson retired but failed to win a trophy.
