Manchester United hero Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's move to Besiktas has now been confirmed.

The ever-popular Norwegian, 51, has been out of management since being sacked by United in November 2021. Following his dismissal, the ex-striker kept his eye in football by coaching at youth level in Norway and holding a position in UEFA as a match analyst.

However, the desire for Solskjaer was always to return to management and after more than three years he has finally managed to do just that. Announcing his arrival on their website, Besiktas wrote: "We believe Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will make significant contributions to our club.

"We warmly welcome him to the Besiktas family, wishing him great success." Solskjaer has penned an 18-month contract at the Istanbul club with an option to extend that stay until the 2026/2027 season.

Solskjaer is not the only former United manager to find himself in Turkey at present. Indeed, last summer, Jose Mourinho made the switch to Fenerbahce has enjoyed a mixed time at the club, often being frustrated by the standard of officiating in the country.

The familiar pair have had their run-ins previously in England after they came to blows during a clash between Tottenham Hotspur and United where Solskjaer accused Heung-min Son of cheating. Two years prior, Mourinho had stuck the boot in on United's tactics after they crashed out of the Champions League at the hands of La Liga giants Barcelona.

Mourinho and Solskjaer are set to meet for the first time in Turkey when Besiktas travel to Fenerbahce on May 4. Along with United, Solskjaer has previously managed Molde and Cardiff City.
