Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner is unsure whether Trevoh Chalobah will start against Leicester on Wednesday.

The loanee missed Crystal Palace’s FA Cup win against Stockport on Sunday because of a ‘contractual issue’, amid speculation that Chelsea are weighing up recalling the centre-back.

With Chalobah’s Palace future in the balance, Glasner will assess whether the Englishman is in the right frame of mind to take on the Foxes before selecting his back three.

“It’s a tricky situation,” Glasner shared. “I want to always be honest. Chelsea has the possibility to call him back from loan.

“There’s a little bit of uncertainty at the moment: will they do it, when they’ll do it. I have to take the best decision for our team. We need clarity, he needs clarity.”

"I don’t want to talk about it in detail. I can’t tell you details about the contract – that’s confidential. There is uncertainty at the moment. Everyone wants and needs clarity.

"You have to be really focused to play a Premier League game, you don’t want to be thinking about different things all day and then trying to focus at 7 pm for a game.

"Every player has to be focused on what he has to do, on the plan and what we want to do as a team. If I think this is in danger then I have to take a decision.

“That’s the situation. Let’s see [whether he plays]. Maybe Trevoh is involved, or not.

"We need all players in their best shape – both physically and mentally. Of course, with the lack of clarity, it is not so easy for Trevoh."

Despite quandary over the 25-year-old’s stay at Selhurst Park, Glasner reaffirmed that Chalobah is keen to stay at Crystal Palace.

“I have been speaking with him. He feels well here at Palace. He is performing well. He is high-standing in our locker room. There’s many positives, but he has to wait until Chelsea decide.

“My wish and Trevoh Chalobah’s wish is that he stays with us. Chelsea loaned him to us to give him minutes, to improve his game. This is what he did.

"I think he’s not finished [at Crystal Palace]. It’s a one-year loan deal. But we’ll see.”

Whenever quizzed, Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has declined to comment on the possibility of a recall.
