Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner will consult his players about their reluctance to drive forwards against Brentford.

Glasner grew frustrated on the touchline during Sunday's 2-1 defeat to Brentford, with the Eagles often killing attacks by turning backwards.

Speaking after the game, the Palace boss was disappointed with his side slowing the game down.

“We are always talking about going forward as quickly as possible, but sometimes we slowed the game down where we had our situations.

“We will talk about it when we analyse the game. Let’s see what the players think because they have to make the decisions on the pitch; they are the guys who decide. We need to get their thoughts.

“One of our strengths is to go quite direct to the goal, but today, we did not do it well enough.

Falling to a 2-1 defeat to Brentford for the second time this season, Bryan Mbeumo fired the Bees ahead from the penalty spot in the 66th minute, before Kevin Schade doubled the visitor's lead with an 80th-minute header.

Debutant Romain Esse netted a consultation goal for Crystal Palace in the 85th minute, scoring with his first touch in Premier League football.

Despite Esse claiming Palace a lifeline, Glasner admitted that Palace failed to do enough to earn an equaliser.

“This was a game where both teams neutralised each other for most of the minutes.

“It looked like the team who made the first mistakes would lose it. Unfortunately, before the penalty, we made too many mistakes – four in a row in our box.

“Being 1-0 down made it more difficult. We had a great reaction after going 2-0 down. We tried everything, but we have to accept that we were not that good to get an equaliser.

“We could do better. We’re always self-critical. Many parts were ok, but being ok was not good enough against a good Brentford side.

“Especially when one or two situations decide a game. We didn’t have our best game against Leicester but we scored in the right moments and took the win.

“Today we didn’t do it. We made the mistake – not Brentford. Both teams were almost on the same level.

“We have to accept it even though we’re disappointed.”
