Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner is frustrated with Chelsea’s decision to recall Trevoh Chalobah.

Chalobah signed a season-long loan deal with the Eagles at the end of the summer transfer window which included a recall clause in January. The Blues have now exercised that recall, with Chalobah rejoining Enzo Maresca’s side immediately.

The 25-year-old made 14 appearances in his five-month stint with the South London outfit, scoring three times – including Palace’s opening goal against rivals Brighton – while keeping three clean sheets.

Reflecting on Chalobah’s time at the club after Wednesday’s win at Leicester, Glasner conceded that Chelsea finished as the 'biggest winners' from the loan.

“I’m not sure disappointing is the right word,” Glasner said. “Trevoh had a great time with us.

“When you make a loan deal it is usually win-win for everyone, but now Chelsea are the biggest winners because they get a player back who scored three goals and is in much better shape than when he arrived.

“I want to say thanks to Trevoh for his professionalism and for what he invested. He is a very good player and an even better human. We had a great time together and I wish him all the best at Chelsea.”

Expanding further, Glasner shared that he took the decision yesterday for Chalobah not to travel as speculation around his future ramped up.

“I told him yesterday that he would not travel because it looked like it could happen any day and we had to prepare for the game.

“It would not have been very fair for him or the team. Crystal Palace always has to be number one, so it made no sense to bring him to Leicester and then maybe decide during the day that he could not play.”
