Oliver Glasner will limit Adam Wharton's minutes ahead of his Crystal Palace return
Oliver Glasner will manage Adam Wharton's workload as the midfielder returns to the Crystal Palace matchday squad on Sunday.
The 20-year-old has not featured for the Eagles since October’s victory over Tottenham after undergoing groin surgery at the beginning of November.
Although the surgery was successful, he suffered several setbacks in his recovery, remaining in pain for a prolonged period.
Palace have managed to resolve Wharton's problems with his groin, and the midfielder enjoyed a full week of training with the squad in the build-up to Sunday’s trip to Old Trafford.
Managing expectations, Eagles boss Glasner expects Wharton to play limited minutes against Manchester United.
“Last week, when you asked me if Adam could be in the squad against Manchester United, my answer was no chance.
“Then I see him training and it’s like he has never been away. I spoke to him on Friday and he feels good. Tired, of course, but good.
“I said: ‘I want you to go [to Manchester] with us. I do not know how many minutes he will get. If it is not necessary then maybe he will not get any minutes.
“I know he will not get 45 minutes, that makes no sense. But if we need him for 10, 15 or 20 minutes, I trust him completely. What I saw this week in training was excellent.”
