Oliver Glasner revealed that a 'contractual issue' caused Trevoh Chalobah to miss Crystal Palace’s FA Cup third round win over Stockport on Sunday.

In his pre-match press conference, Glasner declared that the Chelsea loanee would start at centre-back alongside Marc Guehi and Chris Richards. However, the Austrian coach was forced to change course on Saturday evening.

Despite being omitted from the squad, the 25-year-old was photographed at Selhurst Park by a supporter on social media.

Chalobah's future in South London has been subject to speculation in recent weeks, with reports indicating that Chelsea may recall the defender.

“It's not easy to explain," Glasner shared. He did not play because of a contractual issue — we had to take care. I'm not a lawyer. I was told it wasn't clear whether he could play in this round.

"It was best for him not to play. I found out yesterday evening. It was internal [there was no contact from Chelsea].

"I know he wants, and we want [him to stay at the club], but there is still 19 days to go in the transfer window. Trevoh [Chalobah] and Marc [Guehi] want to stay. We have to keep the squad together.

"Trevoh is expected to be available at Leicester on Wednesday."
