OLLIE PEARCE is feeling confident ahead of York City’s match with Boston United.

The joint National League top scorer is eagerly ready for York’s visit to Boston on Saturday (3pm) after the midweek 2-0 win at Oldham, which has provided a welcome boost to the players.

Pearce was pleased with how City reverted back to basics from their defeat to Sutton United on the Saturday prior, and was even more gleeful at adding another goal to his tally – his first of 2025.

“I think they tried to take it off me, it took a little deflection but they all count. I’m glad to get back on the scoresheet," The striker stated.

“I know we haven’t had many games in between there, but it still felt like a long time.

“Especially as a striker, you always want to be hitting the back of the net so to go a month without scoring does play on your mind a little bit.

“I’m just delighted to win and put one in the back of the net.

“I thought it was a great performance and we sort of got back to what we do best, controlling the game and passing the football.

“I know Mal [Malachi Fagan-Walcott] said in his interview after the game that it wasn’t us on Saturday and it was a disappointing game and a disappointing result, but I felt like we got back to doing what we do best.

“We moved the ball really well and deservedly got the three points.

“We have players that take it game by game, every game in this league is a big game because we want to be at the top end of the table, and to do that, you have to win every game.

“There’s pressure to win every game, but obviously after the disappointment of Saturday, going there and getting three points gives everyone a big boost.”

As a part of City’s defeat to Sutton, questions were raised of the tactical decision to shift Pearce to a wide position in order to accommodate Josh Stones’ involvement.

Despite it not appearing to work, Pearce remains confident that his positioning wasn’t the issue, and reaffirmed his belief in the systems that Adam Hinshelwood plays.

“I did change position on Saturday, but I don’t think it really matters.

“We’re all fluid as a front four or five of whoever players there. I get told to play in a position and I’ll play there and give my all, trying to score the goals.

“You get put in a position, do a job for the team and hopefully you can try score goals to win the games.”

Next up for Pearce and his York teammates is the trip to Boston, which has personal incentives for the squad.

Pearce admitted that he and the players are keen to show the Pilgrims what they are about after suffering a surprise defeat in August, and spoke on the backing that supporters have provided this season.

On revenge, Pearce confessed: “100 per cent, I think it’ll be in the back of our minds.

“We don’t like teams taking points off us and our home form has been pretty decent, so we won’t forget that they came here and beat us. Hopefully we can get a bit of revenge tomorrow.

“It doesn’t matter where or who you’re playing, we want to go into every game exactly the same.

“We plan and prep for it to be the hardest game of the season, and I’m sure it’ll be a tough test.

“We do the same as usual, plan, prep and hopefully get the three points.

“We had a game Tuesday so we had a lot more rest this week, especially compared to the two weeks before where we did quite a bit of training.

“It’s just recovery and making sure that I’m fit and raring to go for the weekend.

“We trained this morning, I don’t try and change too much and I like consistency, keeping my days quite similar.”

Speaking of the supporters, Pearce enthused: “I think they’ve been absolutely brilliant.

“The other night reminded me of Halifax a little bit, seeing 1,200 behind the goal and making some noise.

“They really help the team and have been fantastic, hopefully they can continue to support us throughout the season.”
