Eintracht Frankfurt bid an emotional farewell to their striker Omar Marmoush ahead of his expected transfer to Manchester City.

City made a striker their priority in the January transfer window after Erling Haaland was forced into being used constantly in the first half of the season. Julian Alvarez departed the Etihad Stadium for Atletico Madrid in the summer and the Blues were unable to replace him.

However, Marmoush was targeted straightaway this winter thanks to his great start to the campaign in Germany. The Egyptian has bagged an impressive 20 goals and 14 assists for Frankfurt in just 26 appearances.

On Friday night, his current club faced Borussia Dortmund and won 2-0 thanks to goals from Hugo Ekitike and Oscar Hojlund, brother of Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund. Marmoush was not in the squad for that game as he prepares for his Premier League switch but he was watching his soon-to-be former teammates in the stands.

At the full-time whistle, with the home fans in a jubilant mood, Marmoush was invited onto the pitch to join in the celebrations. This soon turned into a farewell as the forward was pushed in front of the fans to accept their ovation.

Before the fixture with Dortmund, Frankfurt's manager Dino Toppmoller insisted that Marmoush would be playing. However, shortly before kick-off on Friday the Bundesliga club U-turned on this decision admitting in a statement: "Eintracht Frankfurt is currently in talks with another club regarding a transfer of Omar Marmoush.

"Therefore, the player is not part of the squad today." This unnamed club is thought to be City and the deal looks now to be on the verge of completion.
