Omar Marmoush explains why he signed for Man City after Liverpool transfer links
New Manchester City recruit Omar Marmoush has revealed why he chose to sign for the club in the same month he was linked with a move to Liverpool.
The Egyptian, an international team-mate of Mohamed Salah, was reportedly the subject of interest from several of Europe’s top clubs but opted to join an out-of-sorts City midway through the season.
Despite the recent downturn in east Manchester, Marmoush explained it’s City’s track record of winning silverware over the last few years that attracted him to the club.

“This is a day I will never forget,” he told the club’s official channels. “To sign for Manchester City – one of the best teams in the world – is an amazing feeling. I am delighted, my family are so proud, and we are all very happy to be here in Manchester.
“With Pep [Guardiola], his technical staff and the world-class facilities here, players have everything they need to become better. That was really enticing for me when I had the chance to come here. And I cannot deny I also want to win trophies.
“City have been the most successful club in England for many, many years, so I know I am joining a winning environment and winning culture. I want to learn from the staff and my team-mates, and I want to become a valued member of this winning team. I really am looking forward to getting going, meeting the other players and showing the Manchester City fans what I can do.”
The attacker has signed a contract running to 2029 and cost City a reported $73m (€70m/£59m) plus a further $5.2m (€5m/£4m). Marmoush, who registered 25 goal involvements in the first half of the season, has been handed the no.7 jersey.
He is also City’s third January signing along with Vitor Reis and Abdukodir Khusanov as the Blues look to save what has been a disastrous season so far.
The Premier League champions look set to lose their crown this year, with Liverpool 12 points ahead and have a game in hand. Marmoush et al will face Arne Slot’s side for the first time when the Reds travel to the Etihad on 23 February.
