Omar Marmoush can give Man City what Liverpool have - even if Mo Salah won't like what comes next
You only have to cast an eye over Omar Marmoush's highlights reel this season to see why Manchester City have identified the forward as a top target for January.
The Blues are in talks with Eintracht Frankfurt over a deal for the Egypt international, rated as a £50million forward following a breakout 18 months in Germany.
He netted 12 goals last season but has taken his numbers up a level this term with 19 goals in 25 games in all competitions.

His balance, pace and directness - along with a killer instinct in front of goal - have drawn natural comparisons with his international team-mate Mo Salah. The Liverpool star has been the poster boy for Egyptian football and his exploits in the Premier League have elevated him to one of the best in world football.
And while Marmoush is not at that level yet, the prospect of him joining City and thriving under the guidance of Pep Guardiola could see him improve his game further. That will inevitably lead to the 25-year-old being labelled 'the next Salah' and while the Liverpool man doesn't believe those comparisons are fair, the ability and attitude of his international team-mate suggests he is ready to make an impact in the Premier League having taken a few years to solidify himself in European football, as Salah himself did prior to moving to Anfield.
Salah delivered his verdict on Marmoush last year when speaking at the Sharjah International Book Fair. "Omar Marmoush, incredibly talented and currently a key player for his club and the national team," Salah said, as quoted by Egyptian outlet WinWin. "But I hope he can stay away from comparisons because they will keep putting him under constant pressure.
"I just want him to avoid the idea of comparisons. People need to stop comparing him to me, saying he’s 'the new Salah' and that he’ll do what I did or even better, this doesn’t help him; it only puts him under constant pressure.
"You can’t compare him to a player who has achieved so much over the years while he’s just starting out. Let him live his own experience and enjoy it. He’s doing something different, in his own unique way."
Marmoush started and scored for Frankfurt at the weekend and their director Markus Krosche could not rule out that the player has potentially played his last game for the club, even if he will be in the squad to face Freiburg until he isn't.
“I can’t answer that 100%. I say that quite honestly," he told Sky Germany. "The goal, as I have always said, is that we want to keep this team together. So far I don’t see anything out of the ordinary.”
City are looking to increase competition among their forward line after selling Julian Alvarez in the summer without replacing him.
