Omer Riza addresses Karlan Grant transfer rumours as Cardiff City star could still leave
Omer Riza says he was happy with how the transfer window unfolded for Cardiff City, even if they did miss out on two players late on in the window.
The Bluebirds brought in Yousef Salech as well as loan additions Sivert Mannsverk and Will Alves. While Bluebirds supporters were bracing for a pretty hectic end to the window, the loan acquisition of Alves and the departure of Michael Reindorf to Bristol Rovers on loan were the only bits of business conducted on deadline day.
There were, however, some late rumours swirling around a possible reunion with Karlan Grant. The West Brom winger enjoyed a positive loan spell in the Welsh capital last season, but has seemingly fallen down the pecking order at The Hawthorns since the arrival of new boss Tony Mowbray. All that, coupled with the Baggies' late move for forward Adam Armstrong, resulted in some claiming Grant was on his way out of the club, with Cardiff linked as a possible destination.
When asked whether there was anything in links to Grant, Bluebirds boss Riza said: “I know Karlan did really well here last season. Everyone speaks highly of him. It was all a bit late in the day, really.
"I don’t like to rush transfers and get something done quickly - just because something comes up
"I heard something but there was nothing there for us. I don't want to talk on his behalf, but I think Karlan is happy where he is and wants to fight for his place, which shows the character he is. I wish him all the best.”
Riza was content with the work he did during his first window and was more relaxed than he expected on deadline day. However he did reveal one or two deals slipped through his grasp.
“It was quite relaxed," Riza said. "I was happy with what we had.
"There was potentially one I was waiting on. One went on a permanent move somewhere, another went to a club higher up the league.
"We did our work, signed diligently. I’m really happy. It was a good window. I wasn’t glued to the phone or anything like that. Boys have gone out on loan, good for their development.”

It's only natural, in the mid-season window, to battle it out with other clubs for sought-after targets and landing all of the players you want is highly unlikely.
As for outgoings, though, there was one player notably still left in the building when the clock struck 11pm on Monday in the form of Jamilu Collins. It is understood the Nigeria international is not in the plans moving forward and he could still leave, with other countries' transfer windows, such as Portugal, Turkey and the MLS, still open.
“At the moment, JC is searching for another club," Riza said of Collins.
"We’ve had good, honest chats. The windows are not closed abroad so things might still happen there. In the meantime, he’ll continue to act professionally and train in order to play games. I'm not sure what will happen with that.”
