Hat-trick hero Amad has described the past week as "one of the best" in his life after scoring a dramatic treble in Manchester United's 3-1 win over Southampton at Old Trafford on Thursday night.

Approaching the closing stages 1-0 down after Manuel Ugarte's own-goal shortly before half-time, Amad brought United level with 82 minutes on the clock, firing past Southampton goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale after his initial effort was blocked.

The former Sunderland loanee, who had given United some much-needed belief, then turned the game on its head in the final minute of regulation time, connecting with a fantastic pass from Christian Eriksen to fire past Ramsdale and spark jubilant scenes inside Old Trafford.

He then pounced on a Saints defensive mix-up to claim his third goal in the fourth minute of stoppage time, scoring his first-ever career hat-trick, a week after signing a new contract to keep him at the club until 2030. The attacker believes it has been one of the best weeks of his life.

"Maybe one of the best weeks in my life," Amad told TNT Sports. "I am very happy for this win. This team deserved to win this game so I am very happy."

United were second best for long spells of the contest and could have easily been 2-0 or 3-0 down by half-time had it not been for Andre Onana between the posts. However, Amad insists United's players believed they would find a way to get the job done.

The Ivorian added: "In football you have to believe. We believed until the end and are very happy to win this game.

"We drew with Arsenal and Liverpool so the confidence was there. We are very happy."
