Only one Premier League side could possibly afford the amout of money it would take to prise Alexander Isak away from Newcastle United, according to Alan Shearer.

But the Magpies goalscoring legend is convinved the Swedish striker is staying on Tyneside. Isak's form, coupled with United's need to sell if they want to continue to invest in their squad, has prompted plenty of interest in the 25-year-old, with Arsenal said to be very keen.

Newcastle have consistently played down any talk that they would be willing to strike a deal for their star man - even with a £150m transfer fee mooted - and Shearer insists he is out of the price range of all but one Premier League side. Not that it would matter anyway, with Newcastle and Isak sharing big ambitions for the future.

"Other than possibly Chelsea, I genuinely don’t think that anybody could afford to buy Alexander Isak," Shearer told Betfair. "Because of the way that the rules are structured with PSR, I don’t think that anybody could afford him. ’ll never say PSR rules are a good thing - even without them in place, I’m not sure if anybody would be able to go to the price that Newcastle would ask for to sell him.

"I would guess that they wouldn’t even entertain it. If you’ve paid £63 million for someone and he’s smashing the league up like he is right now, what would the price be? I’ve looked at £150m being talked about, but I don’t think that they would even entertain that, why would they?

"The problem then would be getting somebody in who could do as good of a job. That, at the minute, is what everybody needs - a centre-forward. There isn’t a club in the country who wouldn’t go out and buy a centre-forward like Isak if one was available."

Isak is set to sit out Sunday's FA Cup third-round tie against Bromley to recover from a minor injury picked up against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup win. The Swede already has 15 goals this season, including 10 in his last nine appearances. He has also scored in each of United's last seven Premier League games.

"The confidence is flowing for Isak, I think you see it all in his performances," Shearer added. "Even if you were to take his goals away and look at his all round performances; his touch, his technique, his movement and runs in behind, his positioning - all of those things he’s looking red-hot at the moment.

"Then you add in the goals, which are the most important thing, to give you a striker who is at the top of his game playing to the peak of his powers. It’s an incredible feeling for any player that’s in great form, full of confidence - it’s the best feeling in the world. You just feel as though you can play every single day because it just feels natural and as if it’s going to happen whatever you do.

"As a player, when all eyes are on you, you have to enjoy it and embrace it - you’re not normal if you don’t want praise and attention for performing well. Let’s face it, in today’s world, when things switch the other way and you’re not scoring, people still talk about how crap you are.

"He’ll be loving it, I’m sure he wakes up in the morning and can’t wait for training. Even more so, he can’t wait to get to the matches. You have to embrace everyone loving who you are at these kinds of moments in time."
