One Liverpool decision irritates me - but I don't expect Arne Slot to change it soon
It was a hard-fought win for Liverpool on Saturday at Bournemouth. I thought the midfield battled really hard. It wasn’t particularly pleasing on the eye at times but it is a difficult place to go.
They arguably had at least four of the first-choice XI out. That shows you how good a job Andoni Iraola is doing with them and he’s managed to turn them around. He’s a really good coach and I’m sure he’ll be head-hunted because he’s done a great job there.
Bournemouth are no mugs so it was a great win, it really was. And Arsenal beating Man City made it even more important.

Mohamed Salah is absolute class. He scored a great penalty, but the second goal is something special. It was Mo at his best. His all-round game was good, but the finishes - that’s Mo Salah in a nutshell! Brilliant.
At the other end, Alisson made some big saves and got another clean sheet. I think people have been nit-picking with him a bit recently, because he’s that good. If he doesn’t save a couple of goals, people do start to look at it too deeply.
He is invaluable to us. Him, Van Dijk, the midfield and Mo up front, that’s your core.
Slot decision irritates me
I do think that Luis Diaz struggles a little bit in that role as a natural centre-forward for Liverpool. At times he does a really good job. He works really hard.
But for me, you need someone playing on the shoulder of the defenders. But the way he plays, he’s been told not to sometimes. There’s no pressure on the centre-halves at times, which does irritate me a little bit.
But look, it’s what the manager wants. But to play in that position, you probably do need someone to score more goals as we can’t just rely on Mo every week to come to the rescue. Diaz has done fairly well this year but he needs to score goals.
Good business from Liverpool - but we should have signed someone
I would have liked to see us sign an insurance policy in January. I have said it before, we should have gone out and signed someone.
Like Liverpool did when they signed me, getting someone in early so they can bed in for next season and help us go for the league. Obviously they’re not going to do that now.
Stefan Bajcetic has got himself another loan, to Las Palmas. That kid was excellent when he played for us under Jurgen.
You can’t become a bad player overnight. The Salzburg loan didn’t work out for him but you can’t forget, he showed fantastic promise for Liverpool. You can’t lose that overnight.
Hopefully he can regain that before coming back in the summer. It’s a good move for him back to Spain, hopefully it goes better for him than the first loan.
As it stands, it looks like Jayden Danns is going to Sunderland on loan. That would be a great move for him. If we don’t need the lad, it would be brilliant for him.
They are going for promotion. It’s a big club, a really good club with great support. It would be great for him, go and enjoy it.
It’s invaluable for some of these youngsters to go out on loan. And some of them are still playing for massive clubs with great support. They’ll really enjoy it.
