Outdoor pool applies to install energy-saving solar panels
PLANS to install solar panels at Ingleton's outdoor swimming pool have been submitted to North Yorkshire Council.
The 20m open air pool, in Sammy Lane, opened in 1934, and is used by the general public.
It is managed by a committee made up of the local community, and is a charity with all proceeds of fundraising activities put into its running. ] The proposed 24 ground mounted solar panels will be placed to the south of an existing plant room for the pool.
In documents supporting the installation, it is stated: "Due to increased costs of providing power for the pool the committee is seeking to install solar panels which are expected to generate 8,934 kWh per year."
Permission has already been given for the removal of ten trees where the panels will be sited.
Documents continue: "The solar panels will generate electricity that will contribute to the current useage for the swimming pool and save approximately 16 per cent of the current energy bill."
The pool committee plans to fit bird boxes at three locations at the site. Last year, Ingleton Pool received £44,911 from the Government's Swimming Pool Support Fund.
