It is deadline day with Liverpool yet to make any signings - now they have regrettably been informed that one winter 'target' will not be available for a late transfer. On the other hand, the club could secure some important outgoings in the hours that remain.

Arne Slot's side sit top of the Premier League by six points after the weekend's action - the Reds beat Bournemouth before second-placed Arsenal responded in kind with a demolition of Manchester City. Despite their charge to the top, the £12.5m paid for Federico Chiesa last summer remains their only piece of recruitment across the campaign so far.

And with Monday's 11pm deadline fast approaching, it seems that is going to be the way things stay barring any dramatic twists. Here, the ECHO rounds up the latest Liverpool news and transfer rumours ahead of an important day.

Definitive Cherki response

Lyon owner John Textor, of Eagle Football Group, has ruled out Liverpool-linked Rayan Cherki's sale on the final day of the winter window. Most recently mooted for a switch to Borussia Dortmund, the American told Canal+ via Fabrizio Romano: "Rayan Cherki to Borussia Dortmund? No chance. He’s NOT leaving."

Prior to the window opening, the French club were slapped with a provisional relegation from Ligue 1 should they fail to drastically improve their financial situation. As important player sales were one possible way to raise the required funds, the ECHO reported that this would fit the 'opportunistic' trend of deals Anfield chiefs have made recently when truly focusing their transfer efforts for further down the line.

This latest answer from Lyon comes after uncertainty spread from answers given by the ownership, manager and playmaker himself across recent months.

Deadline day loans

As the ECHO understands, the most likely source for deadline day activity on Merseyside is Liverpool loaning out younger talent within Slot's squad so that they can build experience.

Kaide Gordon is one who could possibly move on. The 20-year-old was recalled from a spell with Norwich City last month after only making 10 appearances, now The Athletic claim he is closing in on going back to the Championship with Portsmouth for the remainder of the season.

Another is Jayden Danns possibly up for loan, and this weekend Slot commented: "It’s a process we are discussing a lot about and these decisions will be pushed towards the end of the window."

The striker is a prime target for Sunderland in the second tier, say The Northern Echo. They are thought not to be the only club in the division to have made their interest known.
