Oxhey Jets were not at their best but they can enjoy Christmas with another three points on the board after beating Colliers Wood United 4-2.

Having taken the lead in Saturday's Combined Counties League Division One encounter, the hosts found themselves behind early in the second half to a side who had lost their last five games on the bounce, but they turned the match around to secure a win that leaves them 11th in the table.

Jets had early chances, with George Rice opening the defence with his direct runs, but they were wasteful in front of goal and needed keeper Henry Ford to ensure they weren’t punished.

However, the home side took the lead in the 16th minute when more good play by Rice set up top scorer Dominic Mosca to make it 1-0.

The lead was to last less than a minute though, as Jets were caught napping from the kick-off and Ford was left stranded as Jordan Mobil equalised.

Owen Ayres thought he had finished off a superb move to regain the advantage in the swirling wind and rain, but the goal was ruled out for offside.

Jets were off-colour though and, as they have done so often this season, made a slow start after the interval, going 2-1 down in the 49th minute when James Curren scored at the back post following a corner.

Joint managers Dave Barnes and Tom Inch were quick to react and three changes saw the tempo and effort improve, although the passing quality did not as the pitch deteriorated.

However, Jets did manage to put a good sequence together that ended with Toju James firing home from the edge of the area to equalise after 61 minutes.

Jets upped the ante but their finishing was still letting them down. Long-distance goals have become a feature of their games of late, but with David Lopes missing ill, this time it was the turn of substitute Malachi Bailey whose high dipper beat the keeper from the touchline to make it 3-1 on 75 minutes.

This knocked the stuffing out of Colliers Wood and their opponents made certain of the victory in injury time when good work by Mosca robbed an opponent and the keeper, and as he chased the loose ball to slot in the empty net, Elliott Harris nipped in to convert.
