Pep Guardiola does not mind Manchester City's rivals enjoying their downturn in form - but plans to have the last laugh.

City are on their worst ever run under their serial winner of a manager, losing five straight games before blowing a 3-0 lead against Feyenoord with 15 minutes to go to further dent their morale ahead of a must-win Premier League trip to Liverpool. Victory or defeat at Anfield will be the difference between being five or eleven points behind the league leaders.

Guardiola accepts that rivals enjoying their poor run of form is normal and is happy with the culture in English football, but is also keen to carry out what he has pledged to do at the club. Having signed a new contract to bring more success at the Etihad, the City boss doesn't mind being laughed at now given what he expects to follow.

"Obviously! As is normal in sport, they take the p*** and they laugh at your defeats. That’s normal," said Guardiola.

“At least there’s respect. There’s no violence and this kind of stuff. It is part of how nice football is that people can laugh at you when it’s not going well.

“But a part of that is that I know how we behave internally. Me as a manager, as the spokesman for this club every three days, I know how we behave in the good moments.

“We have proved we are an exceptional club. We celebrate - but not much because we respect the opponents. This is one of the things I like the most: that in the good moments how we behave.

“Now it is the other part for the spirit. We are in November and after Anfield we have another game three days after.

“At the right moment, the club - myself first - will take the decisions we have to take to make the club to maintain the club for many years to come. I want to be here. I asked to be here to try it.”
