The Pacers' phones are undeniably ringing with interest in Myles Turner. That was inevitable with Turner just months away from unrestricted free agency now. Yet the prevailing leaguewide sense, one week out from the trade buzzer, is that the Pacers do not want to trade Turner.

More on this storyline

Another oft-mentioned target, Indiana’s Myles Turner, doesn’t seem like a realistic fit. There’s a real “I’ll believe it when I see it” vibe around the league in regard to his rumored trade availability, as the Pacers continue to play good basketball and their ownership wants to build off last season’s success. -via Los Angeles Times / January 29, 2025

There are two hurdles with a Myles Turner deal. First, it’s unclear how available he truly is. Given his impending free agency, there is a sense around the league Turner is sneakily gettable and can be had for the right price. He’s going to be seeking a contract starting in the $30-plus million range annually, and the Pacers aren’t sure if they want to pay him that much, according to league sources. That has to be factored into this equation if the Lakers trade for him. Second, the Pacers would likely need a center in return. They are not an organization that tanks, and giving up their starting center without getting another would likely cause them to take a step back in the East. -via New York Times / January 29, 2025

Other NBA players are openly pro-cat. Miami Heat rookie Kel’el Ware has one. Indiana Pacers big men Myles Turner (who even styles himself in cat shirts) and James Wiseman do as well. Also, Utah Jazz wing Keyonte George: “Elite, elite basketball player. Extremely skillful,” Poole says. “He’s also a cat dad.” “There are a lot of people in the league, I think, who have pets and have cats. It’s just, you know, I don’t think we go out of our way to express the fact that we have cats,” Poole says. “It’s sort of a cool community. Like a cool cat community. We just kind of keep it in-house. You’ve got to knock a couple times for us to let you in. Secret code.” -via Washington Post / January 29, 2025
