PADDY McLaughlin has been added to York City’s injury list after struggling with an achilles injury.

The veteran midfielder was a surprise absentee from York’s 2-0 win at Oldham Athletic in midweek, with manager Adam Hinshelwood opting to have two academy prodigies on his substitution bench instead.

Hinshelwood has confirmed that the decision wasn’t tactical but was instead due to an injury for McLaughlin, with the City boss hopeful of a potential return to action next week.

“Paddy has had a bit of a problem with his achilles,” The York manager confirmed.

“We’ve just tried to rest him up and get him through it for the last couple of weeks, so it’s been a bit of an ongoing problem.

“I think that with the rest he’s had, it might be something that might possibly not clear up until the Summer, when he has a longer period of rest.

“Paddy might have to go through it until the end of the season, we need his experience now at this vital stage, in and around the squad.

“He was back training today and probably won’t be able to feature tomorrow for us, but I certainly hope that he’ll have a good four weeks of training in him and will be back available next week.”

Dipo Akinyemi is also a player that won’t be involved for the Minstermen in Saturday’s match at Boston United (3pm), having missed out on the visit to Oldham through a twisted knee injury, that was sustained in last Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Sutton United.

The attacker is still waiting for the results of a recent scan on the extent of his injury, whilst Hinshelwood continues to ponder his squad selection after an impressive performance over the Latics in midweek.

“Dipo went for a scan, we’re literally just waiting on the results now on the damage of his knee.

“Dipo won’t be available tomorrow, he’s quite stiff but Sam is quite happy with the progress that he has made in the week.

“We’re hoping for good news on a scan, but the nature of the injury, with it being a twist in action, you can never rule out anything until you get the results of the scan back.

“We’re hoping that will be with us sooner rather than later, and we can make plans accordingly.

“There’s lads that have trained well, Billy [Chadwick] and Ricky [Aguiar] brought so much energy and have come into the thinking as well.

“We’ve got a bit of an injury list at the moment, but there’s no excuses. We’ve still got other players and it was great to give some younger players an opportunity as well.”

In response to City’s recent injury list, Hinshelwood revealed last week that the club were exploring the possibility of bringing in a left-sided loan defender, as well as a potential attacker to bolster York’s options.

However, nothing has materialised as of yet, with Hinshelwood keen to avoid overloading his squad.

“Not yet, no. We’ll go with a similar squad that we had at Oldham.

“It’s [been] a bit of a mixture really, we don’t want to flood the squad with loads of players.

“We were waiting to see how long Crookesy [Adam Crookes] and Ryan Fallowfield would be before bringing in another defender, and obviously losing Jeff King for three games wasn’t ideal either.

“It makes us a bit light in that position, but they’re back training and are back on the grass for another week of training, so they’ll probably be a similar position to Paddy.

“Probably not ready for tomorrow, but with another week of training, they should be available for next week.

“That’s why we were quite keen to not rush, overload the squad and panic into these decisions.

“We’re still, as we proved Tuesday, have a squad that can compete so we want to make sure it’s right and see the extent of the damage of one or two.”
